Personal Phone Use
Purpose:
To promote professionalism, protect client dignity, and ensure caregivers remain focused and available when needed.
Guidelines for Phone Use During Shifts
Permitted Use:
You may use your phone (for reading, social media, or similar) only when:
All care tasks are complete.
The client is resting or does not require attention.
The use does not appear disrespectful or disengaged.
Use must be discreet and respectful — never in front of the client or family unless it's work-related.
Prohibited Use:
No personal calls, texting, or scrolling while actively engaged in caregiving duties.
Avoid use of speakerphone, video calls, or loud notifications.
Never photograph, record, or share anything from the client’s home or about the client.
Breaks:
If you are scheduled for a break, use that time for personal phone use in a private area if available.
Work Communication:
Keep your phone available for contact from the agency.
Respond promptly to messages or calls from the office regarding scheduling or care coordination.
Confidentiality:
Do not discuss client or agency information on personal calls or in public.
All client-related communication must remain private and secure.
